Like all amateur clubs we rely on parents to volunteer for numerous roles to help the Club function. This can be from selling raffle tickets on the door to becoming a fully qualified swimming official or coach. There are many and varied roles which can be undertaken but without them the Club cannot function. As your child moves through the Club and starts to enter competitions, you may find yourself sitting in the spectator’s area waiting for your child to swim. Why don’t you get involved and become an official? The majority of our officials are currently or have been parents of swimmers in the past.
One benefit of being an official is that if your child enters a meet which is oversubscribed, then your child is less likely to be scratched (withdrawn) from the event if you are volunteering as an official. Not to mention you also get fed and watered all day!
You can find more information on becoming an official at Swimming Officials.
When we organise our home meets we are always looking for parent help: organising raffles, baking goodies for the officials, being marshals on poolside. We don’t expect you to become an expert overnight and will always let you shadow a job before leaving you on your own. It’s a great way to get to know other parents and learn about the sport! Have a chat to any member of the Committee to find out more. We’d love to hear from you!
