The weekend of 11th and 12th January saw our swimmers compete in the first weekend of the Devon County Championships at the Life Centre in Plymouth. Most of our swimmers, especially from our Performance Squad, are in heavy training after the Christmas period to prepare them for the long course season, Regional and National qualification. However, there were some great swims from our large contingent of swimmers who competed. Numerous PB's, finalists and medalists in all age ranges which was great to see.
On Saturday 11th it was the 800m event, which saw male and female swimmers compete the event, which was held long course. There were some really strong swims in this tough event, with a really impressive swim from Masters swimmer Steve Hurley, who specialises in distance and Open Water events. He produced a super-strong swim and in the process smashed the South West Regional Long Course 800m record for the 45/49 age group! Well done Steve!
On Sunday 12th saw a busy day of events with our swimmers competing in 200m IM, 100m Backstroke, 50m Breaststroke and 100m Freestyle events.
Well done to all who qualified and took part. More events this coming weekend!
