Well.....Steve Hurley and Katie Townsend take a bow!
Masters swimmer, long distance and open water specialist, Steve Hurley, competed in the Swim Wales Masters Long Course Championships 2020 at the Swansea International Pool this weekend. Steve has carried on his success of winning numerous Open Water events in 2019, by transferring his talents to more pool events this year.
Following breaking the Devon County record for the 1500m Freestyle back in January, Steve took part in 5 events over this weekend. Steve competes in the 45-49 yrs category. The events being the 1500m Freestyle, 400m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle and finally the 800m Freestyle, where he achieved a 7 second PB! Steve won every event - 5 events and 5 Gold medals!

Another ECSC swimming competing at these champs was our own Performance swimmer Katie Townsend. Katie is currently studying at Cardiff Metropolitan University and was competing for her Uni in this weekend's events. Katie competes in the 18-24 yrs category.
Katie, who like Steve, also took part in 5 events and also won 5 Golds! Katie won Gold in 50m Freestyle, 100m Freestyle, 50m Backstroke, 50m Butterfly and 100m Backstroke. Katie won Gold in the 50m Freestyle event, beating 2nd place by nearly 3.5 seconds, the 50m Backstroke by over 5 seconds, the 50m Butterfly by more than 4 seconds and the 100m Backstroke by 11 seconds, which are all huge margins in a 50m and 100m events!
