Another successful Exeter Schools gala!

Exeter City Swimming Club hosted their annual Exeter Primary Schools gala yesterday at Pyramids Leisure Centre Exeter. Exeter City Swimming Club hold the meet every year for the benefit of primary school age children, on a non-profit basis to promote swimming in the community and encourage youngsters to have a go at swimming in a competitive environment.

Most schools host their own sports day every year, but hosting a swimming gala is a bit different and without the benefit of our club hosting this gala, many youngsters would never be able to swim in a competitive environment, especially if they do not swim for a swimming club.

Eleven primary schools from within Exeter and the surrounding area took part in a highly competitive, but fun swimming event. There were over 300 parents and family members there to cheer on their swimmers and the noise and atmosphere inside Pyramids was electric!

There were a number of ECSC swimmers there representing their respective primary schools, but for many of the children, they were taking part in their first competitive swimming event. This is great to see, that having learned to swim, they were able to put their skills and abilities to the test racing against other schools. It certainly made for a really competitive environment - especially in the hard-fought relays!

The gala was run by volunteers from our club, giving up their own free time, with many leaving work early in order to be there and the club would like to thank all of them for their hard work leading up to the gala and during the event itself.

The winning Primary Schools were as follows:

Girls Relay - Broadclyst Primary School

Boys Relay - Exeter Cathedral School

Overall Winners - Exeter Cathedral School

Congratulations to the winning schools and well done to all the swimmers and schools for taking part. See you next year!

Exeter Cathedral School with their trophies and ECSC Chair - Dean Drury
