ECSC Member History Feature No.4 - April

This month's featured member of ECSC is none other than our Head of Swim School, Alison Browning. Ali is known by so many people within the world of swimming, having swam competitively with ECSC as a youngster.

Ali learned to swim in the early 1980's with the club and then went on to swim competitively for the club for several years. Ali is currently involved with the club at both the foundation level with children taking their first strokes into their swimming journey as the Lead Swim Teacher for our now highly renowned Swim School, as well as supporting the Masters squad at the other end of the age spectrum!

Ali was approached by the club 5 years ago to run the Learn To Swim programme, which, at that time, had one session a week with 3 teachers and approximately 80 swimmers. Ali initially agreed to take this on for 6 weeks…..but the rest they say is history as she is still here and has been actively involved in the club since! She has taken the Swim School through a major growth in recent years with now 4 sessions a week, 9 teachers, 8 assistants and over 500 swimmers!

Ali says, “I love being the Head of Swim School and am proud to have been involved in its expansion and getting more children swimming. I have an amazing teaching team and committee behind me that all work really hard and it’s down to this that we have an excellent reputation for swimming lessons in the area, where we receive new enquiries on a daily basis.”

Exeter City Swimming Club has provided Ali with fantastic memories and lifelong friendships, both from when the club colours were black and white to more recently in our now distinctive and well known neon green, with both the Swim School and Masters. Ali goes on to say, “I am proud to see the children progress through the ranks of the club and it has been great to teach the children of some of my friends that swam competitively alongside me during my younger years with the club.”

This truly is a demonstration of how chlorine gets in the blood and our members become loyal ECSC as a result!
